dua pregnancy and labor

Congratulations and Mubarak to you and your family on the the great gift that you have been blessed with from the Almighty. In this article we share some best practices and beneficial Duas and Suras that you can recite throughout your pregnancy for both you and your baby to ensure a healthy pregnancy and successful delivery.

Express gratitude for your pregnancy

When your pregnancy has been confirmed by a home pregnancy test and/or a doctor, the first priority is for the expecting parents to thank the Creator.  Muslims are required to express their gratitude to Allah (swt) for this great blessing. Gratitude may be expressed in the following ways:

  • Pray two Rak‘aat of Salaat al-Shukr (nafl). While in Sajdah, make abundant Dua’.
  • Recite the following Dua’ very frequently:

Allahummâ Lakal Hamdû Wa Laka-Shukr
O Allah! All praises are due to You alone and I express my gratitude unto You alone

Rabbi Hab Liy Min-Ladunka Zurriyatan-Tayyibah Innaka Sam‘iud-Du’aa
O my Lord! Bless me from your side with pure children. Verily You are all-hearing of the Du’aa.

Share the good news of your pregnancy

Of course this is wonderful joyous news that needs to be shared – but do it carefully. Informing close relatives immediately is fine, but consider delaying the official pregnancy announcement until after the third month check up.

When you do announce it, please be mindful and sensitive to those who are struggling to start or grow their family. Many people beseech Allah (swt) throughout their lives for pious children but He has destined otherwise.

Recite these Suras throughout pregnancy

Don’t forget to continuously make dua’ for your children as they grow.

As a parent, your dua’s are always accepted, so it’s important to make it a daily habit. Use your own words, dua’s from the ahadeeth or Qur’an, the important thing is to make each dua’ sincere and heartfelt for your child. To learn some of the best ways to make dua’ for your children, read how the Prophets (peace be upon them all) used to supplicate for their offspring.

It is mentioned that Fatima (ra) reports that:

When it was time for her to deliver her child, Rasulullah (pbuh) sent Salma (ra) and Zainab (ra) to me with the instruction that they read Aayatul Kursi,  Al-Falaq and An-naas and the following verses for easy delivery:

Al-Araf 7:54

Indeed, your Lord is Allah, who created the heavens and earth in six days and then established Himself above the Throne. He covers the night with the day, [another night] chasing it rapidly; and [He created] the sun, the moon, and the stars, subjected by His command. Unquestionably, His is the creation and the command; blessed is Allah, Lord of the worlds.

ادْعُوا رَبَّكُمْ تَضَرُّعًا وَخُفْيَةً ۚ إِنَّهُ لَا يُحِبُّ الْمُعْتَدِينَ

Call upon your Lord in humility and privately; indeed, He does not like transgressors.
